Sanitation has always been an area where the Panchayats have focused extensively on even prior to the launch of the Swachh Bharat Mission on a national scale. The proactive measures at the Panchayat level and with further monetary incentive from SBM, the GPU is now 100% open defecation free.With regard to solid waste management the Gram Panchayat has created an elaborate

system for the collection and disposal of garbage. GPU has constructed Garbage collection

at each ward.GPU organizes cleanliness drive in collaboration with various SHG groups,clubs,all stakeholders of Bhanjyang Bazar, all Panchayats members and functionaries of GPU. All the collected wastes is being segregated and pilled at garbage collection point.All the waste that emanates from houses and shops in the bazar and adjoining areas are collected. The waste is collected on a monthly basis and is ferried to the waste dumping site at Sipsu near Jorethang. A monthly garbage fee is collected from each household and business establishment. The fee collected goes to the Panchayat exchequer which is used in the meeting expenses incurred in the upkeep of the truck involved in the collection of garbage.
